Success Report (previous issues)
I was using my electric can opener the other day when it broke. I had gotten one can opened and I needed to open three more. “No problem,” I said to myself, “I’ll just get out my hand-held can opener and get the job finished.”
For the next seven minutes I struggled and strained to use this ancient piece of equipment. Did it get the job done? Eventually, but it took longer, was harder work, and it didn’t do as good of a job as my electric can opener, (not to mention it was frustrating).
Have you implemented systems into your business yet? If not, you’re running your business like a hand-held can opener. Will you be able to move your business forward? Probably, but it’s going to take you longer, it’s harder work, and it’s more frustrating.
You should constantly be evaluating how you’re running your business. When you feel frustrated, it’s usually a matter of implementing a simple system to take care of your problem. I’ve worked with some brilliant-minded people. They were talented, confident, and self-motivated------yet they failed when it came to running a successful business. How could people with so much promise for success not succeed? Because they failed to implement proven systems. There were methods available to them that would have solved their problems. However, they chose to use their precious time and energy to invent what they thought were new, better, and more efficient systems. It took time and energy on their part, which meant they were busy inventing systems, not being busy building their businesses. It wasn’t long before they were out of business. If they had only implemented proven systems, they would be on the fast track to success.
When you become frustrated with a certain element of your business, look for a system that can help you fix the problem. Check to see if your company has a system before coming up with one on your own. In most cases, effective and profitable companies have devised various systems for the very problems and frustrations you’re experiencing. Look at the top leaders in your company. If they are using certain systems and it’s effective, then you’d be foolish not to implement them yourself. They’re at the top for a reason-----they’ve made the system work for them.
What system do you have to keep track of your leads, customer follow-ups, and potential recruits? How do you keep track of all your business receipts and customer order forms?
