How will I EVER get it all done?

As our kids have gone back to school for another year, I was thinking back to my college days!
At the beginning of each college semester, in every class, I would be handed a syllabus. As the professor went over the course outline—evidently under the impression that his or hers was the ONLY class I was taking—I would think to myself, “How am I EVER going to get all of this done? It’ll take me fifty-seven years just to get through this one class!” The work load included reading, research papers, practicums, lab reports, tests, anecdotal records, lesson plans—there seemed to be no end. It was overwhelming.
Back in my dorm room, however, when I looked at the syllabus more closely, I would notice that the professors had dates attached to each project. This allowed me to take the big picture and break it down into several mini deadlines. That not only made it manageable, it gave me a plan. Suddenly, instead of being overwhelmed, I was poised for action.
With your business, looking at the whole picture can paralyze you. Don’t underestimate the power of the whole picture, though—you need it to keep moving toward your dream. But if the big picture is all you focus on, you will be too overwhelmed, which will cause you to procrastinate
What mountain do you need to climb to move your business forward? What big, bold dream do you hold close to your heart? Have you taken the time to break it down into several mini deadlines?
Let’s say you’re interested in earning your company’s incentive trip. The destination—Hawaii. When your company first announced it, you were so excited you immediately saw yourself winning that trip. You could just picture yourself stepping off the plane into the land of paradise. You could smell the sweet fragrance from the lei placed around your neck. You saw yourself lounging by the pool at the deluxe resort you would be staying at. They gave you so many juicy details that your mouth watered. The palm trees, the ocean, the sand— you pictured it all and you wanted it.
Then they laid out the requirements for what needed to be done. Suddenly your excitement began to fade. You feel like you’d need thirty-seven hours in a day and fifteen days in a week to earn it. When you first thought about the trip, it became your dream and you had clarity. But when you learned of the huge amount of work it would take to achieve it, you felt completely overwhelmed.
Let’s fast forward—the contest to win the incentive trip is over. You read in your company’s newsletter about everyone who earned the trip. As you look at their photos you say to yourself, “How did these people earn this trip and I didn’t? I had a dream just like they did. I had passion just like they did. I had energy just like they did. What set these people apart?”
Do you know the answer?
The people who won the trip had taken the big picture and broken it down into doable steps. They had a created a workable plan for themselves—and you had not. That made the difference.
If you don’t get a plan, it will cost you your dream!
Answer these questions and you’ll be poised for action:
1. What is one small dream you want to achieve in one year or less?
2. How many parties will you do from now through the beginning of December to make that dream happen?
3. How many phone calls will you make each week to book parties and to schedule recruiting interviews?
4. How many recruiting interviews will you do each week?

Right here are the main income producing activities that will launch you into a fantastic fall. This is your plan---now all it takes is some tenacity and plain hard work. Is it worth it? YOU BET IT IS---and when December rolls around, I promise you’ll know it was worth every ounce of energy!

Success to you!
